Home tech gifts seem to be at the top of everyone’s list this year. For Christmas, it seems like it would be easy to pick something out for a few close friends. However, as we get older, it is getting harder and harder to buy meaningful gifts. I asked a tech friend of mine if he had any suggestions for tech gifts. He just recently went through the home buying process and decked out his new digs with a bunch of home gadgets. I asked him for a few suggestions so I thought I would share them.
It may seem comical to have a talking doorbell but it really works. Ring doorbell provides the ability to see and talk with whoever is at your door. It provides a link to your phone or tablet. The device works, not by someone ringing the bell, but by motion. This adds an extra layer of security to your home and belongings. Porch pirates are a real thing, especially around the holidays. This home tech gift can help deter possible criminal activity. It can also provide a wider net of security with neighborhood watch features. If it’s good enough for Shaq, it’s good enough for you!
Another home tech gift could be google, Alexa, or Siri voice-activated devices in your home. I had the pleasure of witnessing a google driven household. This home tech wizard not only set up music with his google but also different lights in the house. I’m not sure how to go about setting this up for myself but it did seem really handy to just say, “Hey Google, turn on the porch lights.” There are so many home tech devices that figuring out which one works best for you and your home only takes a few minutes with YouTube searches.
If I am going to buy a home tech gift for a friend or partner, it needs to be affordable and returnable. The best part about home tech gifts is that they are! Since these gifts are found with major online and retail distributors it is easy to exchange or return them. This way the receiver of the gift can get exactly what they want. It may be that your friend is an Alexa man and not into Siri. Or, they could even just be a little more basic and enjoy the Nest, which links heating, cooling, and lights to your phone. This way you can turn up the heat right before they arrive home. Regardless of which you purchase, just enjoy giving to friends and family this holiday season.
